Bridge Command: London's Ultimate Space Trek

Posted 11 hours ago

Do you dream of flying a starship?

Ever wanted to fly the Enterprise? Eject a warp core? Or negotiate with space pirates?

Bridge Command is London’s one and only immersive roleplaying space adventure experience.

After you put on your flight suit, transport to the Warspite command vessel, and grab a drink at The Mess space bar, you will acquaint yourself with your crew, be briefed on your mission, and decide who will fill which roles on the ship. The lovely staff will train you on the ins and outs of your role and your station before your mission begins. Roles include: captain, engineer, science officer, communications, weapons, helm (pilot), etc. So far, my personal favorite is engineering, because that role requires repairing and maintaining systems all over the ship.

The types of missions available to choose from are: diplomacy, exploration, intrigue, and military. The two ships currently running missions from the Warspite are the UCS Havock and the UCS Takanami. I have completed missions on both ships and can personally recommend the Takanami as my favorite. It is a much larger ship that comes equipped with a shuttle, massive engineering corridor, cargo bay, brig, medical bay, and vast bridge.

Your training and mission at Bridge Command will take place over a period of about two hours. Your group will interact with staff for the duration of your mission. They will play roles on your team, act as your mission control, or run ships that are coordinating with you in real time. Your mission is constantly monitored and evolving based on the decisions you make. On my missions, I have flown the ship, served as a captain, played the role of an engineer, taken a fellow UCN officer (played by a staff member) on board to administer medical attention (including scanning her in our medical bay), destroyed enemy pirate vessels, decoded messages, replaced fuels cells, picked up cargo from fellow UCN ships, and even had to evacuate and escape in a shuttle before our ship self-destructed. As our hull took damage, sparks rained down from the ceiling, smoke billowed from my control panel, and I was fully immersed in the Bridge Command universe.

For just £40–50 per person (depending on the mission you choose) you can participate in a roleplay experience that is the closest you will ever get to serving on the Enterprise. It’s better than a night at the theatre or in an escape room. If you love it and want to complete more than one mission, they will track which missions you have done and make sure you don’t repeat the same one twice. They will increase the difficultly level as you learn the mechanics of their ships, and drop new lore on what’s going on in the Bridge Command universe.

Teran’s Bridge Command pro tips:

  • Wear thin layers that will fit underneath your flight suit. Be prepared to take layers off if your mission heats up, literally, but also be prepared for the ship to be cold.
  • Book a time slot that says “selling fast” to make sure you have big crew (the bigger, the better).
  • If you get there early before your time slot, or are looking for somewhere to grab a bite after you finish, stop by the Tea House Theatre around the corner at 139 Vauxhall Walk.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, preferably ones that you think will match your navy flight suit.
  • Take lots of pictures of you and your crew!
  • If you try it and you love it, join their discord to meet fellow Bridge Command enthusiasts and put together crews to book missions together.
